Religion: This is from our religion book we use at school. Growing and Changing, As we are getting closer to Easter, let's Celebrate how children are growing and changing, just like the people, plants and animals around us. Take note of all the seasonal Spring changes too. The flowers will be growing and changing too which is giving new life. A fun activity: Look at baby pictures with the children and discuss how big they are getting since they were born. Also, If you go to religion.sadlierconnect.com no log in necessary, purple box, click on Let's Go! you will find many resources for adults to read. If you click on Catholic Identity Links there are many readings and activities to discuss with family, you may have to edit for our young age group. These are for resources for you, as it is not our classroom book.

Story Time: YouTube has all of the books as read alouds. Also, Eric Carle reads some of his own stories too! You can get on the official Eric Carle website as well. Not sure if all of these are on that site, but it is fun to explore it. Some of the sites are not free, so be aware.
Monday: Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see? By Eric CarleDiscuss colors in the book. Go on a color hunt in your home. Play I spy with my little eye something….. red etc.. Tuesday: The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle One of the children’s favorites.Make your own caterpillar. Draw circles for the children and have them cut them out with your help and supervision. I always encourage them to have thumbs up when cutting. Explain to the children that a circle has curved lines, no corners. Count how many circles long the caterpillar is. Touch each circle and count out loud. Wednesday: 10 Little Rubber Ducks by Eric Carle Discuss how things get from one place to another. In this story on a ship. Practice counting to ten by memory. Write out the numbers 0-10 and ask what number they see. Have the children trace your numbers. Remind them that we always start to write from the top. Have fun with water play. If you have any rubber ducks, add them to some water and see them float and move. Thursday:The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle Make a ladybug. Cut a paper plate in half for the body, add eyes, and a circle for a head. Paint or color with crayon. Don’t forget to add your spots and then count them! Ladybugs are many different colors and have all different numbers of spots.You could explore these insects on epic! How about making a pet rock ladybug. Paint and add spots. Most of all, have fun! Friday:The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle If you have any seeds at home explore them. Make comparisons of big and little. Lay the seeds out and count them. Pbs.org has a Dr. Suess move like a seed video. Draw a picture of flowers or trees that come from a seed. Discuss how seeds can travel by wind and on animals.

Monday: Pg. 48 online /K/ is for kite. Practice writing and tracing slanted lines to help get ready to write the uppercase letter K. Listen to the music demonstration. Tuesday: Pg. 49 online Click on pencil for demonstration Wednesday Pg. 49 online Click on WP for wooden pieces formation. You will need to assist with the dragging procedure. The children can use their fingers to trace too. As you place the pieces you can say big line, little line, little line so they can understand the writing process. Thursday: Pg. 49 online Click on the W for chalkboard wet sponge. The children enjoyed painting at school the letters on chalkboards with water too. Friday: Trace the letter /K/ in journals. See if the children can trace and then “ write their own letter K. No worries! They are just beginning the writing process. Often at times it will not look anything like a letter. Feel free to make a kite and fly it outside. Math: Go to: lwtears.com Follow procedures from writing above to get on our Get Set for School Book Find Mat Man Shape Books This week we will explore Mat Man and shapes. You can draw in your homemade journal that you made. The children will be very excited to see him. Remember, the children are just learning to write. It really is all just for the process. You can draw these shapes and let the children trace Mat Man if needed. Trace with finger too! Practice on a wipe off board for fun. Have fun and only do what you think your child can handle. Listen to the music and enjoy.
Monday: Listen to Mat Man Shape Book first. Go over the shapes rectangle, circle, diamond, triangle and square.Then go to pages 2 &3 Take note of the rectangle shape. Describe it; two long and two short sides. Try and draw Mat Man with a rectangle. Add a circle for a head etc.. Tuesday: Mat Man circle. Describe a circle as having no corners and it rolls. Go to pages 4 &5. Try and draw Mat man with a circle. Wednesday: Mat Man diamond. Describe as four slanted lines. Go to pages 6&7Draw Mat man with a diamond shape. Thursday: Mat Man triangle. Describe a triangle as having three corners and three lines.Go to pages 8 & 9. Friday: Mat Man square. Describe as having four sides that are all the same or equal. Trace with finger.Go to pages 14 & 15Draw mat man with a square. Have fun! Draw the shapes in the air if it works better for the children.
3/23 Welcome to our second week. We will get through this together! Below I have some fun activities planned for the children. Have fun!! Only do what you think your child can handle. First and foremost, Our Rosebud classroom always learns through play ! I did put links on this page as well as our Rosebuds welcome page. Hopefully, you can get on from here; but in some instances you may have to create own free account. If you can, please make a journal or use a notebook to record all your writing and drawing pages. The children love to look at their accomplishments. It will also help to keep us on track. This week I thought it might be fun to read/sing and dance to some Nursery Rhymes. The children love to point out a rhyme in our songs, and were getting really good at it too ! Give them a word and have them rhyme for you ! Below is this week activities. Keep scrolling to get to some fun writing activities. To listen to the Nursery Rhymes go to: Go to : worldbookonline.com then click on early learning. Click on stories. Click on scroll bar with the musical note. Nursery rhymes should come up. Scroll through the nursery rhymes and you should see them. You may have to set up your own free account if you can not get on. Let me know how it goes. I just listed these, but there are so many other familiar songs and activities. We can do more next week. Monday: Eensy Weensy Spider Can you make a spider and count the legs?This may be a great opportunity to practice cutting skills with your guidance and children safety scissors. Have the children cut long strips of paper for the spider legs. We know a spider has 8 legs, but keep counting on. Practice counting by memory to ten. You can help start the journey of writing the numbers in a journal too.
Tuesday: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star What about making big/little stars. Cut the stars out together and then make a pattern with them. Don't forget to touch and count the stars. Remind the children to count slowly as they touch and say the number.
Wednesday: The Alphabet Song - Of course the children will love to sing this fast and slow. Write you name in your journal if you had a chance to make one; or any paper to write on will do. Staple the paper together and now you have a journal. Name the letters in your name. Save all your writing so I can see how how you are doing. Write/color scribble and draw in some way every day !
Thursday: Old MacDonald Had a Farm - How about playing , Can you guess what animal I am ? What says Moo? Can you quack like a duck? Walk like a duck ?What letter does duck begin with? Take note of letters in the environment.
Friday : Skip to my Lou- Try skipping! We have been working on this. The children had me skipping and singing until I almost fell down! I loved every minute of it! They do have a lot of energy! Most of all, have fun! Writing: I will walk you through the process this week to help get to our writing book. To help with the writing process go to : lwtears.com Go to early learning/pre k (get set for school,green box) then go to distance learning (the blue box, click on learn more) Then go to Pre-K interactive teaching tool. (Pre-k) (click on create an account) Go to far left corner and click on little black triangle. Click on Activity books, then My First School Book. There are many fun activities to use, but I will try and do a letter or two each week to keep us on track. The Letter/R/ is where we left off in school. We can revisit the previous letters online together at another time. This should get you to our Handwriting without Tears book. Feel free to do all the tracing activities using your your child's finger to trace over the letters. The dragging might be tricky for our age group on the computer, but this is our writing book and the children will be very familiar and excited about it. This is just meant to be an introduction to the letters. No stress if the children can not do it! Have fun with it! At the bottom of the page is the page numbers. With each letter, try and give the sound and name same words that start with that letter or sound. Go on a letter hunt in books. Also, for example, write some /R/words on paper and then circle the letter /R/.
Monday: Getting ready for letter /R/. Do page 46 Practice drawing slanted lines on the rake page. Then have the children write in the journal you created. Tuesday: Letter /R/ practice tracing with finger first, then have fun exploring. Write the letter /R/ in your homemade journal. Wednesday: Letter /R/ - Click on icon WP at bottom of page. Practice formation with wooden pieces. This is drag the big line/little curve/little line. You can help the children drag and place the wooden pieces. They do this at school but not on computer. Please say the words big line, little curve, little line together to help with how to write the letter /R/. Thursday: Click on the little pencil icon at bottom of page. This will show how the letter /R/ is formed. Trace with finger and say the words together. Friday: Click on icon of little lady on bottom of page. ( far left) Listen to crayon grip song. Try it with you crayon or pencil. Enjoy the gifts from God, living and non-living. God Made Our World ( sing to the tune of "The Farmer in the Dell" God made the world for us. Happy Friday! Today, if you can go outside have your child take note of signs of spring. There are buds on the trees and flowers popping up! Look through the window and look for birds. Count how many you see. If you are looking for some fun music and movement, play the freeze dance or go to GoNoodle for some silly songs and movement. A fun song the children love is Wer'e Going on a Bear Hunt. I think if you YouTube it you can find it. The children love to act it out! If you can, get a journal going so the children can write or draw every day. Each day write name, name the letters in name, count the letters in your name. Try singing to some shape songs for kids on YouTube. On Monday When it Rained is a great book to talk about feelings and emotions. The story is about what happens to a boy every day for a week. I found it on YouTube . Have the children draw in their journal a picture of how they are feeling. Have fun!

Happy Spring ! Today may be a great opportunity to discuss the weather and seasons. The children will love hearing how God gave us the gift of rain to water the flowers. Have them fill up a sponge of water and watch it drip down like rain coming from a cloud. Maybe draw/paint a picture of some flowers. The children love finger painting. Don't forget to have them write there names. The letters R/K/A are next up in our Learning Without Tears writing book. Take note of the slanted lines when forming the letters. Have Fun! To keep things in a routine, make a book/journal out of paper and have your child write or draw in it everyday. The children will love this and enjoy seeing all there hard work.

Classroom routines: Have a task everyday that children have to do first. We always took out our folders and put it in bin. Then I always had children do certain activities for morning learning through play time. Example,write their names, tell you the letters in their name, build a tower and count blocks etc... I always say first complete this task,then------ Religion Snack recess Tablet time Library Gym Music Spanish Story Time- Questions and answer time, sometimes we act out a story or put it on a flannel board. Circle Time- Music and movement, calendar-go over days of the week- (we like to sing this), date-(count),what is the weather? Talk about the seasons--Happy Spring Show and share time-the children love to share stories of perhaps an accomplishment they had that day or a story from home. Centers: writing, math, science, art, blocks, dramatic play, sensory table, play-dough Clean up time Prayer Lunch- Children clean up there own lunch and put away lunch items. Book time B.R Rest time- Children get all the things they need for rest. Music on Rest time Clean up blankets and put away Free play
Rosebuds: As a follow up to Mrs. Izzi’s Parent email of the recent school closings, I have provided some ideas games/skills to help your child play and learn while at home. The Rosebuds love to learn and play! Have fun! Each day I will add a few ideas to help you along with the learning process. I will try and incorporate things that you can do with everyday items from home.
Read to your child each day. Point out that you always read left to right. Practice the concept of left and right with your hands and feet. Sweep your finger across the page while reading the words. Some favorite authors in the Rosebud classroom have been Laura Numeroff, Eric Carle and Dr. Seuss. The children love to listen to stories; so any book will be fine.Have your child go on a letter hunt in the book. They love to find letters that are in their name. Have your child practice“writing”. Provide crayons or other writing materials along with paper and encourage them to draw while playing. Have them pretend to help make a grocery list with you and write what they would like to get at the store or have for dinner etc… . Perhaps they might like to “write” a note to their friends along with a picture. They loved playing post office at school. Practice writing their names. Ask what letters are in their names. Can they count how many letters are in their name? Reinforce that when writing, we always start our letters at the top. You may have to remind them where the top and bottom are. Encourage proper pencil grip. The children are really good at this and will love to show you. Paint with watercolors/finger paint/draw or scribble. This is all great for fine motor development. Sing the ABC song. The children love to sing it fast and slow. Play A,B,C bingo or find a letter. Talk about straight and curved lines when “writing “. Play with play-dough and roll it out to create lines, letters, numbers or shapes. Paint with water to create lines, letters and shapes. Practice cutting skills with child safety scissors (if you feel your child is ready to do this) Play Simon Says, Hokey Pokey, Head Shoulders Knees and Toes, Red Light, Green Light. These are some favorites that encourage following directions. Encourage your child to draw a self portrait. They love drawing their crazy hair and face along with their arms, legs etc… You might want to ask some questions like; where is your head, eyes, nose, mouth ? Or just encourage your child to tell you about their picture. Lots of open ended questions are terrific.
Math: Sort toys by color, shape and size. While playing keep in mind words like next to, besides, between, same, different, more, fewer, above, below, different, or patterns. Create patterns with toys or everyday household items. Example: big sock, little sock, big sock etc… Play pass the shape game to music. When the music stops, name the shape. Demonstrate one-to-one correspondence: While setting the table with your child, you can encourage one-to-one correspondence by putting one cup or one fork with one plate. Have children count the number of plates, forks, cups etc…. Don’t forget to point out what the shape of the table settings are. Ask, is there one plate / cup for each chair? Encourage shape recognition : Play I spy with my little eye; a triangle, square, circle and rectangle. Look for all different shapes in your home environment and encourage your child to name them. Example, the bed is what shape? How about the windows, floor tiles, T.V , plates, refrigerator, thermos etc… ? Call out a shape and then find it. The children love to build shapes with craft sticks too! Cut out shapes and have the children match them. Try hiding shapes and have the children find them and name them. Practice number recognition. If you have a deck of cards at home let the children play with them. Look at the numbers and count out the objects on the card. Count out objects while pointing to them or placing them. For example, count the dolls, trains, blocks of the tower that was just built. Point out that you see one, two, three, four square blocks in your tower. Do a puzzle with the children. They love doing them and are getting good at it too! Play games that have counting or color/shape recognition involved. Turn taking is always a good thing to practice. Encourage language development. Talk about the game as you play it. For example, “whose turn is it?” “ Can I have the dice?” How many dots do you see on the dice? Have some play time in the kitchen. Practice, mixing, measuring and mashing. Point out colors, textures, liquids and solids. Have your child help fold the towels when doing laundry. Point out the corners and shapes of the towel. The children are great helpers in our Rosebud classroom and are always so proud when they fold their blankets in half and put them away. Religion: Practice making the sign of the cross. Say prayer before meals. Talk about how God has created so many wonderful things in our lives. The children love to talk about all God’s gifts to us. Point out living and non-living objects. Discuss how God always loves us. Sing, dance and play!

3/18 If you are looking for a family activity to do, try cooking together. It is a great math activity too. Also, the mixing and stirring is a great way to encourage the fine motor skills. The children love to pretend to cook in our dramatic play area. Have children take note of the measuring cup/bowl being empty, half full or full. Just a thought, if you are making chocolate chip cookies, have the children count out a specific number of chips. This is a great opportunity to enhance their counting skills. If you are looking for some fun reading opportunities online, try storyline online for a variety of stories read to you.
